Do my tubes fit my tires and my tires fit my rims?

by Levi Bloom on March 17, 2008

Hi. I just recently bought a pair of Michelin Mountain A/T 26 x 2.2 tires for my bike. My bike currently has 26 x 1.5 bontrager satellite road tires on it right now and they are on 26 x 1.75 rims. My questions is whether the rims will be able to fit with the Michelin 2.2 tires or will I have to get a new rim.

My other question is if i have to get tubes that fit for tires from 2.2 - 2.5 or will a tube that fits for 1.75 - 2.125 work? Thanks

Hi Manny,

Your new tires should fit your rims just fine. As long as the wider tires don't hit the frame, everything should be fine.

The only concern would be putting 26" tires on 29" or 700c rims. That would not work.

The tubes are fine, too. The smaller tubes (26 x 1.75-2.125) are actually better, as they will expand to fit the tire instead of bunch up (like wider tubes may do,) and that would increase the chances of pinch flats.

Have fun with those big tires!
