Park CT-5 Mini Brute Chain Tool Review
The Park CT-5 chain breaker is a tool used to remove and install chains by forcing a pin out of a link (or by pushing it back in.)
This is the smaller model made for light use by the home mechanic or for carrying in your seat bag or hydration pack.
Pros: It's very easy to carry around due to its small size and light weight. Also, it's made by Park, who make the best bike tools out there.
(The threads actually stripped on my CT-5, so I sent it in to Park and they quickly replaced it free of charge. Park certainly gets a 5 star rating!)
Cons: It's not that durable or easy to use. It is hard to get much leverage with it, so it's not useful for stronger chains, and you sure don't went to struggle with it more than once in a blue moon.
It probably won't stand up to daily use (mine didn't stand up to weekly use for very long.) But the worst part is that it will kill your hands if you use it daily - that little metal handle will just dig right in!
The Final Word
You can't go wrong with Park tools, but I'd only recommend this tool as something for your hydration pack for trailside use. If you'll be using it at home, stick with the full-size CT-3, which only costs a few dollars more.
